How to Prepare for PTE?

Pearson PTE is one of the newest and the fastest in terms of results delivered, some people have even got their results in as less as 20 hours. If you are looking for a fast result, then PTE will be the one you must consider provided that the university that you are applying for accepts this certificate.

Familiarise with the test format:

Like IELTS and TOEFL, PTE has its own test format, however, it has the same sections as other tests which are reading, writing, listening and speaking. However, the key difference between PTE and IELTS is that the speaking evaluation in PTE is done via computerised Internet-Based Test whereas in IELTS there will be an examiner to assess. In order to perform well on PTE, it is very important to make sure that you have practiced typing on computer. There is no alternative for IBT in PTE as compared to TOEFL which offers both IBT and PBT. This means that along with the test your computer typing skills will also be a factor in determining the outcome of the exam.

Take practice online tests:

PTE itself offers online practice tests where you can register and take the practice tests. These practice tests are important for two reasons, one to assess your English language proficiency and the other is to help you to be familiar with the format of the test. The test is divided into 3 parts where speaking and writing is clubbed into one and the remaining two would be listening and reading. The total time needed to complete PTE is around 2 hours 10 minutes. The challenge lies in the fact that PTE has completely academic based questions which means sometimes it is important to have knowledge about different subjects too.

Take expert feedbacks:

We all need help when it comes to taking an exam and it is no different when it comes to taking an English proficiency exam too. This means based on your online practice tests results you can ask for feedback and opinion from experts to know what areas you can improve and what you need to do to improve. You can listen to online tutorials where people explain what areas to focus and provide tips on how to get the score that you desire. You can always take online courses for preparation or ask help from fellow students who have taken exams or even your teachers who are good at English.

Improve on your shortcomings:

Working on your shortcomings can be challenging mainly because by now you know where you are committing errors whereas you may not be familiar as how to correct them. At this point it is important to remember that taking experts’ feedback is essential and once you have it all you have to do is practice as much as possible. This will make sure that you will improve your vocabulary, improve speeds and make sure you know what aspects to target to get most of the exams and get the scores that you desire.
